Pet friendly London: The secret life of pets...

Paws up who has watched the movie ‘The secret life of pets’? We love it, we’re secretly convinced that Vinnie would be chief party planner if he had the chance! We were very excited when we recently got in touch with the team at Vertus, Canary Wharf Groups residential arm, about their new pet friendly development, 8 Water Street. Have they inadvertently created East London’s ‘Secret Life of Pets’ HQ we ask ourselves?

Vinnie spent much of his life living in East London, until he was driven out by a group of neighbours. During his court hearing, Sir Geoffrey Vos, Chancellor of the High Court commented that he had never met a group of people with such a “vitriol” dislike of dogs. T

he Canary Wharf estate has not always had a reputation for being pet friendly, however in recent years many of the local bars, cafes and restaurants now welcome our canine friends. We are therefore delighted to see that they have taken further steps to embrace this important demographic, who consider their pets to be part of the family unit, creating homes for them. Thank you CWG!

8 Water Street is a collection of 174 units ranging from studio to three-bedroom apartments. The building itself, designed by award-winning architecture firm Stanton-Williams has a low-rise character which connects residents to the water and green spaces below.

The second of three brand-new build-to-rent (BtR) schemes to launch in Canary Wharf. As well as being pet-friendly, residents can expect benefits such as tenancy terms that suit their needs, with flexible deposit options and an exceptional range of amenities, including family friendly and pet friendly spaces.

The development also boasts a host of amenity space including a private rentable dining room, resident’s lounge and TV room and an expansive roof terrace and shared private gardens perfect for giving pets their daily exercise.

Alastair Mullens, Head of Vertus comments, “We’re really pleased to announce the launch of our second BtR (Build to Rent) building in Canary Wharf’s new district Wood Wharf, a vibrant and restful waterside community. As the first pet-friendly BtR building in Canary Wharf, we expect to see a strong demand for these apartments as there are very few properties of this quality available on the rental market, which also have the option of keeping pets”

This is amazing progress for the rise of pet friendly and those of us who are working to end pet discrimination. We salute Vertus and all who embrace tolerance and acceptance.

At PAAW House we believe that every pet deserves the right to a loving home, and every human deserves the right to love a pet.

As Build to Rent schemes continue to offer luxury pet friendly accommodation to those who can afford it sadly the divide between those who can, and those who can’t grows wider. Our pets don’t care what we own or where we live if they have our love. In our opinion, tolerance, balance and good practice is all that’s required. It’s time to end pet discrimination across the board.
